I am going to blog about the book Go Ask Alice. It is about a girl who is constantly going through changes in her life. She lives with her mom and dad. Her dad is a college proffessor who just wants best for his daughter, Alice. The book starts with Alice and her family moving for her fathers work. She is not getting along with any of the kids at her new school and is not making any friends. Her parents begin to encourage her and she finally meets some. Her "friends" are not friends at all. They are just a bad influence on her, but she will do anything to have those friends.
Her friends were into drugs, sex, and stealing and unfortunately, Alice gets wrapped up in all of it. She takes it as far as running away to other states just to party. She stops going to school, and is more worried about selling drugs for her new boyfriend. Her boyfriend was the worst person she could have met. He begins to self medicate her. Pumping her full of nothing but drugs. He also begins to get abusive. Alice turns him into the cops and runs all the way to California. There, the party is still going on. She is homeless but still manages to get her fill of drugs, sex, and alcohol. She eventually returns to home and sobers up, only for a small time. It was unclear on how Alice died. Drug overdose, accident, or did some of her old friends get "payback on her?"
I believe that the books title is very symbolic. Her name was Alice and she became a nightmare. Go Ask Alice, is a book that I think all teenagers should read. It tell you all about how it was with Alice and can help you understand why people would do drugs. I also believe its called "Go Ask Alice," because its kind of a "doo dat." If you have questions about drugs or life, or if you want to know how it effects you.....Go Ask Alice. It tells you the effects drugs has on people, because Alice died from it.
I read this book when I was in middle school, and I can't even tell you how much it impacted me and my opinions about drug use. It was CHILLING. What a powerful novel!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you!I think it is really sad on why people turn to that instead of trying to get help. I feel bad for them, but at the same time, I cant help someone who won't help themselves. I just hope that eventually they will open their eyes and realize how bad it really is.
